Drawing With Light

I am drawing with light in my living room. Tomorrow I may draw with light in my kitchen or bedroom, in my backyard, or at the park. My tool is neither a pen nor a pencil. It isn’t a computer or a mobile phone. My tool is my camera.

When I learned that “drawing with light” is the literal definition of photography, I was awestruck. This definition resonates with me because I’ve always felt like an artist who couldn’t do art–at least not fine art.

Performing arts is my jam. I can sing and dance. But I’ve always wished I could draw or paint. By the time I took my first photography class in high school, I felt a sense of relief from my artistic itch when I held my first TLR camera, looked down into the viewfinder, and took a photo. I was learning more than how to document history; I was learning how to create art.

Let’s all create!  Let’s all use our gifts and talents to create beauty and meaning in this world. Then share it to inspire others to turn their lives into a work of art.
