My 5 Takeaways from Angie Legg
Last year, I interviewed Dr. Orin Davis, who said something I will never forget: It isn’t our talents that make us unique. It’s our experiences.
This nugget of insight is the key to personal branding. Your experiences–the places you’ve been, the obstacles you’ve overcome, the people you’ve met–are the meat and potatoes of your story. Your story is the foundation of your brand; it is what people will think and remember about you once you’ve left the room.
To understand the power of your story, you have to own it. You have to use it with a clear intention to add value to the world. Personal branding strategist Angie Legg knows how to harness the power of a story, attract an audience, and affect change. Here are my five big takeaways from our conversation.
- Own your story. What experience makes you unique? Capitalize on that. Share your story to change people’s lives.
- Build a community. Accumulating followers means you have people who, from time to time, like to see what you’re up to. Building a community means you are engaging in meaningful conversations with them.
- Know your Why. When you know your message and intention, you will attract people who align with your Why and are better suited for your services.
- Understand your target audience. Learn as much about them as you can: age, location, hobbies, pain points, solutions they’ve already tried.
- Create one-to-two-minute videos where you share a solution to one of your audience’s pain points. Go through easy bullet points your audience can digest with ease. Post these mini-tutorials on your social media consistently.
What’s your story?
