Record and listen to yourself stating affirmations.
Your words and voice play pivotal roles in changing your mindset. Follow these steps to leverage their influence.
- Write down five to ten affirmations.
- Make sure they are “I am” statements such as “I am wise.”
- Using a voice app or recording device, record yourself stating your affirmations. Speak with a loud, clear, confident voice.
- Listen to the recording daily, as often as possible.
Write down as many of your successes as you can remember.
We often think of our failures. But what about all our successes? Dr. Orin Davis says most people overlook our mistakes–and even better, they don’t care. Your accomplishments probably outnumber your less stellar moments. Write and display your successes somewhere you will see them regularly–like on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. Let them remind you that you’re a winner.
Hold a smile for at least one minute.
In his book, The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor says smiling helps you feel happier. Holding a smile tricks your brain into believing you are happy. If you can’t bring yourself to smile, he suggests placing a pencil in your mouth, forcing a smile across your face. Although you may not be bursting with joy after doing this exercise, you will feel better. Try smiling as you sit in traffic or take a shower. Notice the shift in your mood.
