What Content Marketing?

Guess What? You’re a Content Marketer. (Smile)

Guess what? You’re a content marketer!

I know what you’re thinking: What the heck is it?

It sounds like something you would need to spend weeks, months, even years learning before you could even get started!

But I have some good news for you: You’re probably already doing it.

Allow me to explain.

Content marketing is creating and sharing articles, images, videos, and audio to build awareness of your product or service.

Ah-ha, yes! That tweet you posted, inviting people to read your blog post, is content marketing. If you’re a baker, that article you wrote about baking a cherry pie is content marketing because it builds awareness about your expertise. If you’re a mommy blogger, that photo you posted to Instagram of you homeschooling your kids is content marketing.

So…where are my peeps?

Why you might ask, is my audience not expanding if I’m already doing content marketing?

There may be several reasons. But more than likely, either you’re limiting your reach, or you’re confusing people.

Be present, clear, and consistent.

If your niche is book reviews, then, in addition to your social media, you should distribute content to sites where book lovers hang out. Facebook groups are great for finding specific audiences. Join a few groups and ask the administrators if you can share your content. Remember to respond to people’s replies and engage in conversations.

You also want to be sure that you are sharing content that is relevant to your niche. Think of it this way: If someone were to scroll your Instagram images and videos, would they know for sure what your niche is?

If you’re a book reviewer, then it’s probably not in your best interest to post a photo of you at your family reunion unless it’s relevant to a book you’re reviewing.

Remember, as an expert in your niche, you’re all about solving your reader’s pain points. If you’re limiting the number of people you’re reaching or confusing the ones you are reaching, then your audience will not grow.

If your blog has a clear purpose, make sure that everything you create and distribute to build awareness of your blog aligns with its purpose.
